Officer Marion Bowman was attempting on make an arrest when he suffered a fatal heart attack.

On April 12, 1968, Officer Bowman, 44, was attempting to subdue a person involved in a disturbance during the 1968 riots at 3536 Main Street, and suffered a fatal heart attack. Officer Bowman was taken to General Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 12:50 am. The National Guard and Highway Patrol patrolled the city to maintain peace during the riots.

Officer Bowman was a WW II veteran. He had been with the Kansas City Police Department for 15 years joining in April 1, 1953 and was assigned to the Traffic Unit. He was survived by his wife and child. Interred: Clearfield Cemetery, Ringgold County, Iowa.
