Officer Patrick Jones
End of Watch: Monday, April 3, 1882

On April 3, 1882 Officer Jones was advised by a local grocer in his neighborhood of some suspicious black males in the area. As Officer Jones approached the subjects they started running west from Officer Jones' location, St. Louis and Hickory. Officer Jones gave Chase and was shot at St. Louis and Liberty, where he died. It should be noted that a young black male, suspected by some area people to be the suspect in Officer Jones' murder, was chased down and lynched by the crowd. It was later learned that they had hung the wrong man and an inquiry was initiated to learn the truth about these circumstances.
