Officer Charles Massey was killed in a traffic accident.

On November 24, 1975 at 6:40 am, Officer Massey was responding to a prowler call when he lost control of his patrol car on Troost near 86th Street. His car skidded across four lanes of traffic and was struck in the side by a station wagon. The patrol car rolled over and flipped, trapping Officer Massey inside. It took over thirty minutes to extract Officer Massey from the car. He died from his injuries at the scene.

Officer Massey had been with the Kansas City Police Department for 19 months, joining the department on April 1, 1974, and was stationed at South Patrol Division. He was a Mason and was survived by his wife and son. Interred: Forest Hill Cemetery.
