Officer Larry Oliver was killed in a motorcycle accident while pursuing a vehicle.

On April 18, 1968 at 7:30 pm, Officer Oliver was chasing a speeding suspect on 12th Street in the West Bottoms and while trying to avoid a car, lost control of his motorcycle. Officer Oliver struck two different uninvolved automobiles before he was thrown from the motorcycle and became pinned between a guard rail and a brick building at the corner of 12th and Genessee. Officer Oliver was transported to Menorah Hospital where he died of his injuries at 10:00 pm.

Officer Oliver had been with the Kansas City Police Department for nine years and was survived by his son. Interred: Glenwood Cemetery, Glen Elder, Kansas.
