Officer David Woodson died from injuries sustained in a traffic accident.

On August 9, 1968, Tactical Officer David Woodson was driving an unmarked vehicle at 41st and Woodland when his vehicle was struck broadside by another vehicle that was being pushed by a third vehicle that failed to stop at a stop sign. The patrol car was spun around from the force of the impact, Officer Woodson was thrown from his police car and struck his head on the curb. He was taken to at Menorah Hospital where he died from his injuries three days later on August 12, 1968.

The driver of the other vehicle was cited for careless driving and failure to possess a valid driver's license.

Officer Woodson had been with the Kansas City Police Department for two years joining in 1966 after being a civilian employee. He was survived by his wife, son and daughter. Interred: Mount Washington Cemetery, Independence, Missouri.
