On the evening of November 24th, 1960, Officer Hudson was shot and killed in a gun battle with three armed suspects at the Antioch Shopping Center.

On the evening of November 24th, 1960, Officer Hudson was dispatched on a robbery call and upon his arrival, he encountered three men armed with guns in the parking lot of the Antioch Shopping Center. He and the other officer that responded to the scene were caught in a gun battle with the suspects, and Officer Hudson was mortally wounded, shot through the heart. Two of the suspects fled the scene and the third suspect confessed to officers that caught him a short time later.

All three suspects, LeRoy Lee Larson, Jack Lynn Hodge and Billy Miles, were convicted of Patrolman Hudson's murder and sentenced to life on February 11, 1961.

Officer Hudson, 22, had been with the Kansas City Police Department for four months and had served for three years in the United States Air Force. He was survived by his wife, Joyce Hudson and was the son of Frank and Edna Hudson. Interred: Stockton Cemetery, Cedar County, Missouri.
