Officer Albert Cummings was shot and fatally injured while attempting to apprehend a robbery suspect.

On On February 2, 1925, at 8:30 am, a suspect stole a sedan from a man at Linwood Boulevard and Michigan. At 10:15 am the suspect then shot an eighteen year old girl at 3007 East 27th Street during a failed street robbery. At 11:00 am, Officer Cummings who was on foot patrol at 37th and the Paseo observed the robbery suspect in the stolen vehicle. He was shot and fatally wounded by the suspect, Wade Ralls during the ensuing gun battle. The suspect abandoned the stolen car and fled the scene of the shooting of Officer Cummings but was later shot and killed on February 6th when he fired on KCPD officers attempting to interview him at his residence.The wounded girl was hospitalized in critical condition at Research Hospital. Officer Cummings who had been wounded in the chest, was treated at General Hospital but died from his wounds on February 27, 1925.

Officer Cummings, 45, was survived by his wife, Augusta. Interred: Forest Hill Cemetery
